Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, W. E. B. Du Bois, Sojourner Truth, Booker T. Washington, Harriet Tubman, Thurgood Marshall, Mary McLeod Bethune, and Fredrick Douglass are all names synonymous with the celebration of African American History; and, each one of them is deserving of our highest praise. However, in Words Of Comfort, E. D. Arrington's first collection of poems and inspirational writings, she takes the opportunity to pay homage to the least likely of our ancestors. Lest We Forget'Every Life Counts! emblazoned on a golden scroll on the last page, bringing a close to this heartfelt book, sums up the theme weaved throughout this body of work. 'Every word,' Arrington says, 'was written in tribute to people, all of whom I cherished. People, none of whose names are famous, or, to most, not even recognizable. People who possibly never fathomed being placed in the spotlight of my life'a life that they each helped to shape into the person I am today. My only hope is that by some small measure, I have made them proud.'

Stay The Course, set in rural Carroll County, North Carolina, in the late 1960s and early 1970s, tells the moving story of a grandmother's ('Ma') lifelong dream to see one of her own get a high school diploma. With four grandchildren set to graduate like stair steps, nothing seems to be standing in the way. But on a cloudy Saturday evening, tragedy strikes, leaving one grandson dead, another running from the police, one granddaughter emotionally shattered, and Ma with one last hope ' Lori.

But nothing could have prepared Lori for the struggles she would face on her journey to fulfill Ma's dream ' sibling relations, race relations, accepting personal responsibility for her decisions and having to learn positive ways of addressing life's challenges by first seeking to understand differences rather than judge. And just when she thought the worst was over, the worst was yet to come. On a beautiful Saturday evening, three days before Ma's dream would stop being a dream, the unbelievable happens.
