When one sits down and ponders on the subject of great literary and poetic minds, names such as Langston Hughes, Maya Angelou, James Baldwin and Ralph Ellison bubble to the surface of recollection. Well, if you haven't already done so, be prepared to added another name to the list; Pierre Sutton Jr.

A native of Chicago's Southside, Pierre Sutton Jr. was born to Pierre Sutton Sr. and Jacqueline Buck in the summer of 1980. After being introduced to the works of Langston Hughes when he was in the fifth grade, Pierre became a habitual reader of literary works ranging from poems, short stories, plays, screenplays, to fiction, nonfiction, and science fiction. Shortly after, he began to write his own poems, short stories, plays and lyrics. Upon the release of his first book of poems and short stories (Soul Rebuttals, 2001) and the prophetic, emotionally rhythmatic writings founded within its cover, many critics and fellow artist has already been lead to consider him to be the next great poet to carry the art to its pinnacle.

About the Book
Considered to be an instant classic by many, Soul Rebuttals is Pierre Sutton Jr.'s groundbreaking debut bringing the African American Vernacular tradition back to the forefront (visit www.soulrebuttals.com to learn more).

When he was compiling his new book, he decided to reject the "traditional chapter by chapter format" and aim for a "creative and unique challenge." The result? A unique and lyrical blending of the best of his "mind stimulating" free verse poetry with a selection of short stories and lyrics. In Soul Rebuttals, Sutton examines the effects of two spiritual entities, P.E.T.E.Y., the guardian angel conscious, and Pdanzig, the vessel of self destructive urges, on the psyche of one man, Pierre. Using a variety of forms to bring the voices of P.E.T.E.Y., PDanzig, and Pierre to life, Sutton examines the effects of these spiritual forces on one man's life.

With a brilliant sense of history, time and innovative penmanship, Sutton versatility leads us seamlessly through the moods of Pierre the man, whose psyche is the stage for this unfolding drama. From the jazzy rhythms of an old jook joint to the moan of self-hatred in a tormented soul, Sutton carries us through the endless landscape of one man's mind, revealing the good, the bad and the confused alike. A must have!!
