Taking its name from the trickster/storyteller figure in African and Caribbean folklore, ANANSI: FICTION OF THE AFRICAN DIASPORA introduces original short fiction by talented writers of African descent.

Founded in February 1999, ANANSI opened its pages to the new, emerging, and established writers of the African diaspora—and to readers who appreciate a broad range of fiction. published twice a year, ANANSI is a 6" x 9" trade paper literary journal featuring cover art by talented artists. Subscriptions for individuals are $25 (1 yr) $40 (2 yrs). Institutional subscriptions are $44 (1 yr) $60 (2 yrs). Single copies are available for $15 + $3 s/h.

GUIDELINES FOR WRITERS AND ARTISTS

subject/style	ANANSI considers original works of fiction by writers of African descent. Our intention is to publish excellent fiction from writers throughout the African Diaspora that appeals to readers of diverse literary interests.
SASE	Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
cover letter	Introduce yourself and your work in a brief cover letter. Please include any information you wish.
payment	Payment in copies and $50 (US). Each contributor will receive three (3) copies of the issue in which a work appears.
terms	We are seeking original, previously unpublished short fiction and novel excerpts from all genres. Simultaneous submissions accepted but discouraged. Replies to submissions within 4-6, depending on volume. Upon acceptance, ANANSI will request a text file of your work and a brief bio. ANANSI acquires first serial rights on all accepted pieces (one-time rights only). Copyright reverts back to the author after publication. We ask that contributors credit ANANSI in future publications of the accepted work(s).
format	Send 2 copies of your work. Manuscripts must be typed (doubled-spaced) and printed on white letter-sized paper with one-inch margins. Your contact information should appear on the first page of each new piece only. Number all pages. Please do not send us your only copy, as we cannot be responsible for lost work. ANANSI requests that upon notification of acceptance, the work(s) is provided by E-mail or in Word on a floppy disc. Mss without SASEs cannot be returned.
